Labyrinth (1986)

Labyrinth is a film by Jim Henson featuring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, and Toby Froud. It takes place in the imaginary goblin kingdom and tells the story of a 15-year old girl who wishes for her baby brother to be kidnapped by the goblin king and gets what she wants.

It’s a film with puppets, a lot of puppets, and good ones, the technological limitations of the time didn’t allow for CGI to be used: there are only a few superimposed shots and an animation for the titles that are computer-generated, the rest is mechanical, and it’s great work. It goes without saying that the acting and soundtrack both are good, considering the names at play.

The rhythm of the film is quite good, and the songs by David Bowie do not break it as horribly as in (some) Disney films.

All in all, a film suitable for all audiences and that you can watch with your entire family, even that brat who won’t stop crying!
