Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is a film by Tom Shadyac featuring Jim Carrey, Courteney Cox and Sean Young (Bladerunner), released in 1994. It takes place in Miami, and tells the story of a pet detective hired by a football team to search for their missing dolphin mascot.

Jim Carrey saves the whole film which would be ruined by its brainless plot without him, his character is arrogant and spits out hilarious one-liners like a machine gun, and the schoolyard and silly humour is quite effective.

I liked this film more than Dumb & Dumber, which had too many cringe-worthy moments in my taste. And this may be the funniest Carrey film of them all, they’re all good, but this one had my ribs really hurting all along.
